About
This title was released way back in 1997 and one of the oldest flight simulators on the market. It is also by FREE to play and download it is about flight whee you can fly a variety of aircraft both fixed wing and helicopters across the world.

Graphics
The graphics are good for a simulator which is FREE. Some aircraft are better than others. For example the Gazelle helicopter looks just like some payware helicopters. It depends on the aircraft and scenery you download. Some aircraft and scenery look amazing but some look basic. It uses OpenGL

Sound
We found no major issues with the sounds and they stand up well to any payware sim.

Menus and Options
I have to be honest here and the menus are not our favourite menus of all the sims. We find it a bit clumsy at times. Its not bad but could do with a overhaul. Multiple displays are also supported

Gameplay
Flightgear has both single and multiplayer options with over 20 000 real world airports. We flew a number of aircraft and to be honest, there is very little difference between this and some payware simulators. In fact the helicopter flight model is better than FSX and one of the best simulators for helicopter flight on the market.

Additional Information
64bit so can access huge amounts of RAM, TRACKIR isnt supported out of the box unfortunately but there are ways of getting it to work I have been told. Good Support for many controllers, Huge community and addons. The official website is well designed and you can download extra scenery and aircraft easily.

Summary
Unlike FSX Flightgear is 64 bit which means it can access large amounts of memory at a time.  Flightgear also runs on many operating systems including Windows, Linuz, MAC OS-X, FreeBDS, Solaris and IRIX!
