For the first time, the BVG purchased articulated buses of West German brands in 1992, including 25 MAN NG272, usually called GN92 by the BVG. These buses offer a 100% low-floor front vehicle, distinguishable by the lower window line. Contrary to the trend towards bucket seats, the GN92 are fitted with classic seat benches as used in previous 1st generation standard buses, offering an unusually high comfort. To use the power of the turbocharged 6.8 litre engine in an optimum way, the buses are equipped a 4-speed Voith gearbox and a very short axle ratio. Like the D92, the GN92 had interior displays and ticket printers from the beginning.
